"We had a great time tonight and picked up a bunch of great information, found a new line of feeds we're anxious to try, saw some gorgeous pulleys (hats off to Phillips Campbell who raised them!), and had a great meal to boot. I hope Co-op will…"

"Jake, you can usually pick up ducklings at Co-op or Tractor Supply in the spring, I saw Khaki Campbells listed on Craigs List, and you can order from Murray McMurray just about any time. "

South Knoxville/South Knox County Group

I live in South Knox County, off of Sevierville Pike and just outside the city limits, and I thought it would be a cool idea to have a "micro-guild" or a Permaculture group by the local geography, one that just includes people living in South Knoxville and South Knox County. I know that alone is a pretty big swath of territory, but I hope by meeting other Permie-people in the immediate area, we can share resources, skills, and empower both ourselves and others to build a sustainable reality,…See More

"I know this is an older post, but I just saw this.  I totally support the idea and could we please start in South Knoxville? Maybe then we could help South Knox avoid the "industrialization/commercialization/apartmentization" blight?…"

Profile Information

Why are you interested in joining the guild? (If you are outside the Knoxville region, why are you interested in joing the guild?)
I have a mini-farm in South Knoxville - Spirit Dog Farm (Certified Appalachian Grown, all-natural non-certified organic) - and would like to learn more about permaculture.
What neighborhood do you live in?
South Knox County near Seymour
What skills or experiences do you have that can be shared?
We micro-farm organically using a mix of gardening and farming techniques that allow us to maximize the space we are able to commit to crops. Those techniques include modified raised beds, square foot gardening, making our own soil from composted horse manure, seed saving where we can, and working to use our livestock for pest and weed control when we can. We also build and sell a line of custom chicken coops in sizes from a few hens (up to 6) to a small production flock (up to 24) and planter boxes in compact sizes that we use where we can't fit in our permanent raised beds.
About me:
I'm a mom, wife and grandmom with a family of six (plus all the critters). We are active in 4H, committed to building our dream farm and know we are blessed and content. Our website is listed below and you can also follow us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SpiritDogFarm
