My faith in community gardens is crushed.

So a few weeks ago I got a call from Ben at Beardsley telling me that a plot had become available. I suppose for some reason they thought the person had abandoned it. Jeff, one of the Americorp workers let me choose between a plot near the playground and one a bit away from the playground that was getting a new fence put around it. I chose that one. Good fences keep good neighbors (haha j/k).A friend, myself and my son went to weed it a couple weeks ago and then this past Saturday I went and…See More

Profile Information

Why are you interested in joining the guild? (If you are outside the Knoxville region, why are you interested in joing the guild?)
I've always been a biophiliac I suppose. I come from a long line of East Tn sharecroppers. People who always have a garden and put up vegetables. I've worked for an herbalist, a garden center, an organic herb farm and now I'm an archaeologist (so I'm still digging). Though I'm slightly cityfied I've recently become more interested in local foods and sustainability, mostly due to Barbara Kingsolver. I love the idea of community gardens.
What neighborhood do you live in?
Lonas Drive
What skills or experiences do you have that can be shared?
If anyone digs up a historic or prehistoric artifact in their garden, I may be able to identify it.
About me:
I'm a low-level archaeologist who occasionally digs but most often washes and catalogs artifacts. I have a 14 year old son, a geeky boyfriend and a cute mutt named Mallory. My family has been in East TN since before the Civil War. I like to read, craft, watch movies, go to festivals and concerts and get dirty. I'm a skeptic and an atheist and I like doing things that make me feel like a useful human "bean'.
