Backyard Fish

I'm posting to share an open invitation for anyone interested to come check out my backyard fish setup. This year I will be raising catfish in a 300 gallon tank.  I'm going to incorporate rainwater and a few other upgrades to make the system more sustainable - using fish wastewater on the gardens, and growing some fish food. Here's my details - feel free to get in touch.Jake Livesay4518 Haverty Drive37931jake.livesay@gmail.com865-771-8132…See More

Meat Rabbits

Looking for information on legal issues of raising meat rabbits in and around Knoxville.  I've read in informal online discussions that rabbits are not considered livestock and are therefore exempt from the issues surrounding chickens. Any thoughts / advice are appreciated?See More

"Thanks Valerie ... I got 6 khaki campbell ducklings from a guy in Loudon County a couple days ago.  Things are going well."

"Does anyone have a source for ducklings?  I believe we're allowed to keep up to two ... even in a subdivision.  Something about them not being considered a "farm" animal."

The Role of Intellect in Culture at 8 Shooters Studio

February 26, 2011 from 7pm to 9pm
A meeting was held last year to discuss the role of intellect in culture - and the responsibilities of intellectuals (a loosely defined term that does not require formal education).  In the interest of continuing this discussion locally I would like to present the outcomes, and future directions, of the group. Here is the flier for the presentation:…See More

Profile Information

Why are you interested in joining the guild? (If you are outside the Knoxville region, why are you interested in joing the guild?)
Because I think permaculture is a necessary element of our society. The natural ebb and flow of society convinces me that we should never lose basic skills of survival ... in particular things like small scale agriculture, food preservation, and brewing...
What neighborhood do you live in?
Karns
What skills or experiences do you have that can be shared?
Nothing unique, just interested. I've been involved in gardening and hiking for years.
About me:
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. I rambled around over the years, spending time in Massachusetts, Wyoming, the Czech Republic, Colorado, and California before settling here in Knoxville.

I have one son, Yuma, with Tovah Greenwood.

I went to college in Arlington, Texas, and receieved a BS in Physics. My third attempt at grad school earned me a PhD in Applied Physics from the Colorado School of Mines. I performed my thesis experiments at ORNL's physics division. I have been employed by ORNL since January 2007.

I believe the artist for my picture is "Joe Sorren". I don't even remember where I found it! It's a cool painting though!
