Hi Everyone! A friend of mine is working with the Feminist Action Collective members to create a community garden at the Minvilla Manor.  Ultimately they would like the garden to be tended to by the Minvilla residents.   Does anyone have any old tools you would be willing to donate to this project?  They could use things like spades, pitchforks, hoses, wheel barrows, etc, etc. Anything that you no longer use but is still in good working order would be appreciated!   Thanks so much! LizSee More

Profile Information

Why are you interested in joining the guild? (If you are outside the Knoxville region, why are you interested in joing the guild?)
I'm living in Knoxville working for CAC AmeriCorps. Beginning Aug 2010 I will be working for Beardsley Community Farm. I have enjoyed the network of people I have come to know and the opportunities that have come my way through my endeavors in AmeriCorps thus far and am excited to expand that by getting connected with the Knoxville Permaculture Guild. I'm all about EVERYTHING FOOD. Where it comes from. How it's grown. What to do with it. Coming together around it. So why not join this cool group!
What neighborhood do you live in?
Fourth and Gill (but Parkridge beginning Aug 1 2010!)
What skills or experiences do you have that can be shared?
I've taken a few cooking classes in my time and lived and worked on an organic sustainable farm in Tuscany for a summer where I spent A LOT of time in the kitchen with the cooks. So I can and love to cook, try new recipes, and teach ones I know already. Some of my favorite ingredients are whole grain mustard, sesame oil, and local, delicious PORK. I've been working on the creation of a garden in Tyson Park so I've become familiar with water catchment, composting, and some gardening tricks, but I'm still learning and want to learn for you all!
About me:
I'm from Boston, born and raised, and went to Boston University. I love running (outside only!) and just being outside in the sunshine! I like baking and have done some minimal canning and yogurt making. I don't really like restrictions and regulations when it comes to food; if I want raw milk...I'll get myself some raw milk! I don't like my food to have ingredients that I wouldn't normally buy, like high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated soybean oil. I am easily (and willingly!) influenced by people like Joel Salatin, Michael Pollan, and Rachel Carson. And hopefully the Knoxville Permaculture Guild as well!
