Profile Information

Why are you interested in joining the guild? (If you are outside the Knoxville region, why are you interested in joing the guild?)
I just moved to Knoxville. i work on a farm in greenback, but it's hard to meet people of similar interests outside of the farm (there are only 2 of us)
What neighborhood do you live in?
north Knoxville (broadway)
What skills or experiences do you have that can be shared?
My experiences are varied. my degree is in forest management. I am currently working on a project on our farm creating orchards, mushroom habitat and also wild animal habitat. i'm also a carpenter and welder. i've been an avid organic gardener for years while living in asheville NC.
About me:
i'm 38 we just moved here a few months ago. i did the 9 to 5 way to long. I now have the oppritunity to do what my passion is. sustainable living. i grew up in cleveland so i'm really a city boy at heart, i've always wondered why people weren't more self sustainable in the city. so my goal is to be completely self sustained in the city.

Hey Brendan.
It has been a while since I've talked with you! I'm curious about the progress on your mushrooming and urban farming ventures.
I'm interested in writing an article on your ideas and goals with it all, why you have chosen to pursue such a thing, as well as thoughts on the direction our agricultural system is going or needs to be going...

I would be submitting this to some local publications such as the Hellbender Press.

Let me know if you'd be interested in an interview.
Cheers!!

Thanks, I'll need to cut that post and put a few slate pieces on top to keep the rain from running down the side.

Lets wait to use it in the final "slip" layer, where we can water it down. But if you bring it by at some point on sunday, maybe we can do a 'test' spot. ~Chad

Brendan:
Sorry for the confusion.
The hugelkultur garden workday at the Birdhouse is still planned for the 10th, I was thinking it would be an issue being Mother's Day, but it turns out no one has big Mom Day plans. I may be out of town on Saturday and, unfortunately, be missing the mushroom workshop. =[

However, I'll be there Sunday and maybe I'll see you there.
Woot!
Cheers,
Alix

Hey so I left the oyster mushrooms in the egg carton in the bag in the dark for too long, and now it has some green fuzzy mold on it. Have I failed? Or will I still get good mushrooms? I opened it today and put it in the bag on the deck where it will (hopefully) get dappled sunlight.

Brendan: do you think it will work out alright having the big planting workday at the hugelkultur gardenbed at the Birdhouse the same day, the 9th, as the second part of the mushroom workshop?
I think it will be nice to put in some spawn in the bed at the same time, I want to make sure you're okay with this though. I rescheduled the workday from the 10th because of Mother's Day. Let me know... I don't want to steal your thunder or nothin' like that. =]
If not, see you there for an extravagant day of inoculation and germination.

That wouldn't be a problem. The event is free.

Brendan,

We don't have anything scheduled for the 9th, but we do have Phase II of the gardening workshops on the 10th. Would you be interested in piggy-backing on that event? Either way is fine with me.
