Last Sunday was a nice day for a stroll in the woods. While in the woods I spotted a beautiful box turtle and a Black Racer: a 5-6 foot snake that stopped me cold with a fake rattle. And near the end…Continue

Any interest in planning another forage for mushrooms? Perhaps either May 12 or the 19th? We could try it back here at our farm. But I'm game for any location.BrianContinue

Comment by Craig Sanders on April 8, 2013 at 11:48am Finally saw morels yesterday. A friend found them and gave me three. Cooked them in butter and they were delicious! Going hunting this week!
Comment by Michael J. White on April 8, 2013 at 11:25am Hi Elizabeth, I have hunted about 5 times already with no luck. We looked at Ijams, Concord park, Along Norris Freeway in a few known spots and an area past the dam. Don't think I have even been to Chuck Swan before, I may have been there as a child once..lol. But, think we have been looking to early I guess. I would be up for going there though. I as well want to start some Shiitake logs, I have the dowels and wax but can not seem to find or reach any good Oak branches.
Comment by Elizabeth Morgan on April 8, 2013 at 9:52am It is time for morel hunting. I will be going as often as I can to look in likely places, one of which is at Chuck Swan WMA. Thurs.-Sat. until 1 p.m. is off limits up there, as those times are open to turkey hunters, but any other daylight hours are OK. If anyone else wants to go to Chuck Swan or anywhere else, just let me know through a message here. I also grow shiitakes in my backyard. I have over 100 active logs, been growing them for about 12 years.
Comment by Michael J. White on April 8, 2013 at 9:36am Hey Brian, I would absolutely be interested in a hunt on your farm for mushrooms. Sorry for the delayed response, was a busy weekend. Myself and my buddy Craig even attended a mushroom growing workshop and dinner at Everything Mushrooms in Knoxville.

We are certainly glad you are part of the group. The group is composed of people who have an interest in mushrooms. But it has no formal structure. Feel free to post questions, pictures of finds or notices of hunting trips. Like all such efforts this one seems to go in cycles.
I would be happy to suggest another hunt for mushrooms on our farm in May.
Cheers,
Brian
