Event Description

This is the final vote. And it should be suspenseful! City officials worked out the final details of the ordinance Friday. Please download the revised ordinance, read it over at the Coalition page , and post any comments you may have on it!

Please mark your calendars! I know the vote has been delayed a couple of times before, but we are really going to try to get a vote this coming Tuesday.

A large crowd last time really helped. Please come and bring a neighbor!

I will have to agree with Mr. Dunkin. Somewhere along the line Animal Control will have the last say in all of this. People are worried about rats and other critters, my goodness, I live in the city and see more raccoons and other critters than I care to see. I have another thought, what happens when NAIS finally gets what they want. Everyone signs up and gets a permit, NAIS comes in and gets the paperwork from them and than they knock on your door, and tell you that you have to have your animals ID chipped. I know that city people want chickens, believe me, I fully understand, but where do we draw the line?

I completely agree with William. I will not support this if by signing the permit I am saying that Animal Control can come & search my property in any event they deem an emergency. I hope between now and the final (again) reading their law people figure that out!

So, do we support the ordinance at any cost? Do we just go with anything the city throws just to get something? Do we ever say "NO" and withdraw our support. Personally, if that last amendment to the ordinance passes, I'm not even going to register. I understand that Mr. Della Volpa wants animal control to be able to inspect, but not at "any daylight hour" with no complaint, no warrent, no reasonable concern and without my permission, let alone my presence. A permit to own a chicken is not reason to give the police (and animal control is a division of the police department remember) complete and total access to my land at any daylight hour. This is becoming ABSURD!

Sorry; I have a conflict and won't be able to be there; I hope all goes well.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend due to a teaching commitment I have from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in Maryville. Good luck. I will be thinking about you.

The building permit will cost $50 in the new revised ordinance, but as David Willis points out, this is consistent with the fee to build any accessory building...."Any building or structure valued from $0 to $50,000 is $50..."
